Matt Elson
Matt Elson was born in San Francisco, raised in Modesto, lived over a decade in NYC and 27 years in LA. He now lives in Joshua Tree, California with his wife Chakra and three children. Matt discovered Burning Man and began attending the main event in 2007. The Burning Man community has been central to his artistic efforts since that time. The Infinity Boxes have been displayed on the Playa annually with increasing intensity since 2012. The Infinity Ship, a life-sized version of the boxes, was commissioned in 2018 by Area 15 in Las Vegas for a 5-year residence. Matt also designed and hand-built the lanterns that illuminated The Temple of Direction at Burning Man 2019. He just brought “Tanzir”, a new art piece that was placed at the base of the man sculpture in 2024.
